Ingredients
Scale
For the Bars:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp almond extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cans (21 oz each) cherry pie filling
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp almond extract
- 2 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray a 15x10x1-inch pan with non-stick spray.
- Cream Butter & Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add Eggs: Beat in the eggs one at a time. Add vanilla and almond extracts, stirring until combined.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined.
- Assemble Bars: Spread 3 cups of batter on the bottom of the prepared pan. Evenly spread the cherry pie filling over the batter, then drop spoonfuls of the remaining batter over the cherry layer.
- Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. For a 9×13-inch pan, extend the baking time slightly.
- Cool: Let the bars cool completely on a wire rack.
- Prepare Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, and milk until smooth.
- Drizzle & Serve: Once cooled, drizzle the glaze over the bars. Let it set, cut into squares, and enjoy!
Notes
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
- Variations: Try using blueberry or apple pie filling for a twist, or add lemon zest for extra tang.
- Freezing: Freeze bars by wrapping them individually in plastic wrap and placing them in a freezer bag. Thaw in the fridge overnight before serving.
