Description

Christmas Crack Saltine Cracker Toffee is a sweet and salty holiday favorite! Made with crispy saltine crackers, buttery toffee, and melted chocolate, it’s incredibly simple to make and perfect for gifting. Add festive toppings like chopped nuts, sprinkles, or sea salt to make it your own! This easy recipe will quickly become a holiday tradition.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers (about 40 crackers)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (milk or semi-sweet)
  • Optional toppings: chopped nuts, sprinkles, sea salt

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Arrange Crackers: Place saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, covering the entire surface.
  • Make Toffee: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil, then let it boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
  • Pour Mixture: Pour the toffee evenly over the saltine crackers, spreading it gently to cover all the crackers.
  • Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes until bubbly.
  • Add Chocolate: Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let the chocolate sit for 2 minutes to soften, then spread evenly with an offset spatula.
  • Cool & Add Toppings: If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts, sprinkles, or sea salt over the melted chocolate. Let cool completely at room temperature or in the fridge until set.
  • Break Into Pieces: Once set, break the toffee into pieces and enjoy!

Notes

  • Storage: Store the Christmas Crack in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or in the fridge for 2 weeks. It can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
  • Toppings: Feel free to customize the toppings! Add festive sprinkles, crushed candy canes, or even a drizzle of white chocolate for a holiday twist.
  • Chocolate Type: You can use either milk or semi-sweet chocolate chips depending on your preference. Both options are delicious!
  • Cracker Options: Saltines are traditional, but you can substitute with Ritz or Club crackers for a slightly different flavor and texture.
