Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large egg whites, at room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp cream of tartar (optional)
- Gel food coloring (green, red, or white)
- Assorted sprinkles (red, green, silver, gold stars)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200°F (90°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Beat egg whites with cream of tartar (if using) on medium speed until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while whisking on high until stiff, glossy peaks form.
- Mix in vanilla extract.
- Divide meringue into bowls and color as desired with gel food coloring.
- Transfer meringue to piping bags with star tips. Pipe tree shapes or circular wreaths onto prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 1½–2 hours until crisp. Turn off the oven and let the cookies cool completely inside.
- Decorate cooled cookies with sprinkles and edible glitter.
Notes
- Ensure the mixing bowl and beaters are grease-free for the best meringue consistency.
- Gel food coloring works best; liquid coloring may alter the texture.
- Cool the cookies fully in the oven to prevent cracks.
- Store in an airtight container for up to one week to keep cookies crisp.
