Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add Egg and Extracts: Beat in egg, vanilla, and almond extract until combined.
- Combine Ingredients: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Shape the Cookies: Roll out dough to ¼-inch thickness. Use a large round cutter to cut out cookies, and a smaller cutter to make the wreath center.
- Bake: Place on baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool on wire racks.
- Make the Frosting: Beat softened butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Add green food coloring until desired color is reached.
- Decorate: Using a piping bag with a star tip, pipe frosting around the cookie edges in a wreath pattern. Decorate with candies and edible glitter for extra cheer!
Notes
- For softer cookies, remove them from the oven when edges are just beginning to turn golden.
- The dough can be prepared up to 2 days in advance. Wrap tightly and store in the refrigerator.
- For a nut-free option, omit the almond extract and replace it with an additional teaspoon of vanilla extract.
