Ready in just 25 minutes, this fun twist on fries is sure to be a hit for all ages!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and cut into fry-shaped strips
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko works well for extra crunch)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples:
Peel and core the apples, then cut them into fry-shaped strips. Set aside.
  2. Set Up Breading Stations:
In three separate bowls, place the flour in the first, whisk together the eggs and milk in the second, and combine the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and breadcrumbs in the third.
  3. Bread the Apple Fries:
Dip each apple fry into the flour, ensuring it’s coated evenly. Next, dip it into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  4. Heat the Oil:
In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat about ½ inch of vegetable oil over medium heat until hot (about 350°F or 175°C).
  5. Fry the Apple Fries:
Add the breaded apple fries to the hot oil in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Drain and Cool:
Remove the apple fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve:
Serve the apple fries warm with a drizzle of caramel sauce or a dusting of powdered sugar, if desired.

Notes

  • For a healthier version, air-fry the apple fries at 375°F for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Serve with caramel sauce, whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven at 375°F for 5 minutes to crisp them back up.
