Ingredients
Scale
For the Meatballs:
- 1.5 lbs ground beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 packet French onion soup mix (divided)
For the Sauce:
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
For the Topping:
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded Swiss or Gruyère cheese
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Make the Meatballs: In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, and half of the French onion soup mix. Roll into 1-inch meatballs.
- Layer in the Crock Pot: Place the sliced onions at the bottom of the slow cooker, then add the meatballs on top.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and the remaining soup mix. Pour over the meatballs.
- Cook: Cover and cook on LOW for 4-5 hours or HIGH for 2-3 hours until the meatballs are fully cooked.
- Add the Cheese: About 15 minutes before serving, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and Swiss/Gruyère cheese over the meatballs. Cover and let the cheese melt.
- Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm. Enjoy!
Notes
- Want even richer flavor? Brown the meatballs in a skillet before adding them to the slow cooker.
- For extra cheesiness, add a sprinkle of Parmesan or an extra layer of cheese before serving.
- Make it spicier! A pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce will add some heat.
- Storage: Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
