Description

Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes are the ultimate side dish for comfort food lovers! Layers of tender, thinly sliced potatoes are baked in a rich, creamy sauce with melted cheddar cheese. This easy, make-ahead recipe is perfect for holiday gatherings or cozy family dinners and will quickly become a favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 large russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh rosemary or thyme for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  • Layer thinly sliced potatoes at the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle minced garlic and chopped onion over the potatoes, then add a layer of shredded cheese and a pinch of herbs.
  • In a bowl, mix together whole milk, heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Pour a portion of this mixture over the layered potatoes.
  • Repeat layering with potatoes, garlic, onion, cheese, herbs, and cream until all ingredients are used, finishing with a top layer of cheese and herbs.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy every creamy, cheesy bite!

Notes

  • For a dairy-free version, use plant-based milk and vegan cheese.
  • Gruyere, mozzarella, or Parmesan cheese can be added for extra flavor.
