These spooky Halloween Mummy Cookies are soft, creamy, and decorated with candy eyeballs for a fun mummy effect! Perfect for Halloween parties, school treats, or festive fall snacks, they’re easy to make and a delight to eat. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the light, fluffy texture and rich vanilla flavor of these festive cookies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 4 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
  • 2 large eggs
  • 5 1/3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/3 cups sour cream
  • 1 package of candy eyeballs for decoration

For the Frosting:

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 stick of unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, shortening, sugar, 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, and eggs until smooth and fluffy.
  • Add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sour cream. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Divide the dough into two balls and chill until firm, about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into circles.
  • Place cutouts on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8 minutes. Let cookies cool on a wire rack.
  • While cookies cool, make the frosting by mixing powdered sugar, softened butter, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.
  • Transfer frosting to a piping bag with a #104 tip. Pipe the frosting in a zig-zag pattern to resemble mummy bandages, and place candy eyeballs on each cookie while frosting is soft.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Chilling Tip: Chilling the dough helps the cookies keep their shape.
  • Frosting Tip: Adjust the milk in the frosting for your desired consistency. If it’s too thick, add milk 1 teaspoon at a time.
  • Make-Ahead: The dough can be made a day ahead and chilled overnight.
