Ingredients
1 box vanilla or yellow cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box: eggs, oil, water)
1 large box orange Jell-O (6 oz)
2 cups cold orange soda (like Fanta or Crush)
1 tub whipped topping (like Cool Whip, thawed)
Optional Garnishes:
Orange zest
Fresh orange slices
Sprinkles
Instructions
1. Bake the Cake
Preheat your oven according to the cake mix instructions.
Prepare the cake mix as directed on the box and bake in a 9×13-inch pan.
Let the cake cool completely.
2. Prepare the Jell-O Mixture
In a medium bowl, whisk together the orange Jell-O and cold orange soda until the Jell-O is completely dissolved.
3. Add Holes to the Cake
Use the handle of a large wooden spoon or a skewer to poke holes all over the cooled cake. Make sure the holes go all the way to the bottom.
4. Pour the Jell-O Mixture
Slowly pour the Jell-O and soda mixture over the cake, making sure it seeps into the holes and covers the top evenly.
5. Chill the Cake
Cover the cake and refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours, or until the Jell-O is set.
6. Add the Whipped Cream
Once the cake is chilled, spread the whipped topping evenly over the top.
Garnish with orange zest, fresh orange slices, or sprinkles if desired.
7. Serve & Enjoy
Slice and serve the cake cold. Store any leftovers in the fridge.
Notes
Use Cold Soda: The soda should be cold to help the Jell-O set properly.
Don’t Skip the Holes: Poking holes in the cake ensures the Jell-O mixture soaks in and adds flavor to every bite.
Customize the Flavors: Try using strawberry Jell-O and red soda for a strawberry creamsicle version, or lime Jell-O and lemon-lime soda for a citrus twist.
Make It Fresh: Add the whipped cream just before serving to keep it light and fluffy.
