Ingredients
1 box white cake mix
3 egg whites
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup water
3/4 cup cold orange soda
3.5 ounces orange gelatin mix
3/4 cup boiling water
12 ounces whipped topping
Orange sprinkles (for garnish)
Instructions
Preheat: Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 pan with non-stick cooking spray.
Mix: In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, water, oil, and egg whites using an electric mixer on low speed until well blended.
Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool: Let the cake cool in the baking dish.
Dissolve Gelatin: Bring 3/4 cup of water to a boil. Dissolve the orange gelatin powder in the hot water, then add the cold orange soda.
Poke and Pour: Using a fork or skewer, poke holes in the cooled cake at ½ inch intervals. Pour the gelatin mixture evenly over the top. Allow the cake to cool for about an hour.
Spread Topping: Spread the whipped topping evenly over the cake.
Chill and Serve: Chill the cake in the fridge for a couple of hours, then sprinkle with orange sprinkles just before serving.
Notes
Make sure the cake is completely cool before adding the whipped topping to avoid melting.
Chilling the cake before slicing makes for cleaner cuts.
