Description

Warm up your autumn gatherings with these adorable Pumpkin Shaped Bread Bowls! They’re soft on the inside, golden and crisp on the outside, and perfect for serving soups, dips, or stews. Not only do they taste amazing, but they also add a festive flair to any meal, making them a must-have for your fall recipe collection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 loaves Bridgford Ready-Dough
  • 1 Egg
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  • Thaw the bread dough according to package instructions.
  • Divide each loaf into smaller portions—half for larger bowls or thirds for medium-sized bowls. Shape each portion into a smooth ball by stretching the dough over the top and tucking it underneath. Pinch the bottom to seal.
  • Cut three pieces of cotton twine, about 18 inches long each, and lay them on a baking sheet in a wheel-spoke pattern. Place the dough balls in the center of the twine.
  • Cover the dough balls with plastic wrap sprayed with cooking oil on the side facing the dough. Let rise in a warm, draft-free location for 2-3 hours, until doubled in size.
  • Preheat your oven to 350ºF. Gently lift the twine and tie it around the dough, creating pumpkin-like sections. Trim any excess string.
  • Beat the egg and brush it over the top and sides of the dough. Bake for 25 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool the bread bowls for at least an hour before removing the twine. To complete the look, insert parsley stalks or celery tops as pumpkin stems.
  • To create the bowl, cut a circle around the top using a serrated knife at a 45-degree angle and hollow out the inside.

Notes

  • For the best results, use cotton twine that’s safe for baking.
  • If you’re making the bread bowls ahead of time, store them at room temperature in a covered container for up to three days or freeze them for up to two months.
  • These bread bowls are perfect for soups, stews, or dips. Consider serving them with a hearty chili or a creamy butternut squash soup for a complete fall meal.
