- 3/4 cup salted butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, lightly packed
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder (preferably Hershey’s Special Dark)
- 1 tsp baking soda
- Fun-size Simply Caramel Milky Way bars, cut in half
- Sea salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugars together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- Stir in the flour, cocoa powder, and baking soda until a thick dough forms.
- Roll about 2 tablespoons of dough into a ball. Break the ball in half and press a piece of the Milky Way caramel bar into the center, then press the halves back together, sealing the edges.
- Place dough balls onto the baking sheet, leaving space between each one. Sprinkle with sea salt.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, until the edges are set and the center looks slightly undercooked.
- Let cookies cool on the sheet for 2-3 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add chocolate chips to the dough.
- If you don’t have Milky Way bars, you can use Rolos or soft caramels.
- These cookies freeze well—freeze the dough balls and bake directly from frozen, adding 1-2 extra minutes to the bake time.
- Be sure to seal the dough around the caramel to prevent leaks!
