Description

Saltine Cracker Candy, also known as Christmas Crack, is a deliciously simple treat that combines the sweetness of caramel and chocolate with the satisfying crunch of saltine crackers. This holiday favorite is made with only five ingredients and takes less than 10 minutes to bake. It’s the perfect blend of sweet, salty, and crunchy, making it an irresistible treat for festive gatherings or anytime you need a quick and easy dessert!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 40 saltine crackers (about 1 sleeve)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (about 1 package)

Instructions

  • Prep the Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, ensuring it covers the sides. Spray the foil with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Arrange Crackers: Lay the saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet. Break crackers in half if needed to fill the sheet.
  • Make Caramel Sauce: In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the brown sugar and stir until combined. Bring to a boil and let boil for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Pour Caramel Over Crackers: Carefully pour the caramel sauce over the crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  • Bake: Bake for 5-7 minutes, until the caramel is bubbly.
  • Add Chocolate: Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the crackers. Place the baking sheet back in the oven for 30-60 seconds to melt the chocolate.
  • Spread Chocolate: Remove from the oven and spread the melted chocolate evenly over the crackers.
  • Cool and Chill: Let cool at room temperature for 20 minutes, then place in the fridge for 3-4 hours until set.
  • Break and Serve: Remove foil and break the candy into pieces or cut into squares. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge for up to 1 week.
  • Freezing: Can be frozen, though crackers may become slightly soft. Test a small batch to see how you prefer it.
  • Toppings: For variety, add sprinkles, nuts, or a drizzle of white chocolate before the chocolate layer sets.
