Ingredients
- 6 to 8 slices of ham, chopped
- 4 to 5 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese (or your favorite melting cheese)
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup (undiluted)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Water, as needed (optional)
Instructions
- Lightly grease your slow cooker with cooking spray or a bit of butter.
- Layer sliced potatoes on the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Add a handful of ham, some chopped onion, a light sprinkle of salt and pepper, and a bit of grated cheese.
- Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with cheese on top.
- Pour the undiluted cream of mushroom soup evenly over the top. Use a spoon or spatula to spread it gently.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 to 7 hours, until potatoes are fork-tender.
- Around the 4-hour mark, check for moisture—if dry, add a splash of water.
- Serve warm and enjoy a bowl of cheesy, savory comfort!
Notes
Use pre-cooked ham—leftover or deli slices work great.
For a fun twist, swap cheddar with pepper jack or mozzarella.
This dish reheats beautifully and makes excellent leftovers.
Add frozen peas or corn between layers for extra color and flavor.
Not a fan of cream of mushroom? Cream of chicken or celery works too.
