Each bite melts in your mouth, and it’s a dish sure to bring warmth and tradition to any table!

Ingredients

  • 4-5 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced into rounds
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Prepare Sweet Potatoes: Arrange the sweet potato slices in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Make the Syrup: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir until combined, and let it bubble for 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Coat Potatoes: Pour the hot syrup over the sweet potatoes, ensuring even coating. Gently toss to coat.
  • Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil, baste the potatoes with the syrup, and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until tender and syrupy.
  • Serve: Let cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

  • Make Ahead: Prepare the potatoes and syrup, cover, and refrigerate until ready to bake.
  • Add Marshmallows: For a twist, add mini marshmallows during the last 5-10 minutes of baking.
