Description

This homemade sweet and sour sauce is the perfect blend of tangy, sweet, and savory flavors! Made with simple pantry staples like pineapple juice, vinegar, and brown sugar, it comes together in just 10 minutes. Perfect for dipping egg rolls, drizzling over stir-fries, or tossing with crispy chicken for a takeout-style meal at home!

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup pineapple juice
  • ¼ cup rice vinegar (or white vinegar)
  • ⅓ cup ketchup
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk together pineapple juice, vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic powder, and ginger powder.
  • In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water until fully dissolved.
  • Once the sauce begins to simmer, slowly stir in the cornstarch mixture, whisking continuously.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens to a glossy, smooth consistency.

  • Remove from heat and use immediately, or let cool before storing.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • Reheat over low heat, stirring occasionally. If it thickens too much, add a splash of water.
  • For extra tang, increase the vinegar slightly.

  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a spicy twist!
