Description
Chocolate orange slices are an easy, vegan dessert made with candied orange slices dipped in rich dark chocolate and sprinkled with sea salt or nuts. A perfect balance of sweet and tangy flavors for gifting or enjoying yourself.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2-3 medium oranges
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 ½ cups water
- 1 ½ oz dark chocolate
- ½ tbsp avocado oil
- 2 tbsp finely chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Wash and scrub the oranges thoroughly. Slice into ¼-inch thick rounds.
- Combine the sugar and water in a wide-bottomed pot. Heat over medium until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Place the orange slices in a single layer in the pot. Simmer gently for 30-40 minutes until the slices are translucent.
- Remove the slices and place them on a wire rack or parchment-lined baking sheet to dry for at least 2 hours.
- Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl, heating in 20-second intervals and stirring in between. Stir in the avocado oil for a glossy finish.
- Dip each orange slice halfway into the melted chocolate and place on a parchment-lined tray. Optionally sprinkle with chopped nuts or sea salt.
- Let the chocolate set for at least 1 hour before serving or storing.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days, or in the refrigerator for 5-10 days.
- For variety, try using blood oranges or grapefruit.
- Use high-quality dark chocolate for the best flavor.
